Stephen Foster's professional music background goes back to 1969 in Muscle Shoals, AL, where he grew up. The list of musicians he's worked with in studio or onstage is a veritable who's who of American music. His music education however, started much earlier, in the 50s, when radio consisted of stations like WLS and WSM at night, and the playlist was as varied as imaginable. Jazz, Blues, Country, Texas Swing, Pop and early R&B all played side-by-side. His father, a stride jazz pianist, and his mother, a contralto jazz torch singer, insisted on a music education for their children. Piano lessons started at age 5, and the home was filled with music of all styles, but the records most played by his father were big band swing, Chet Atkins, and Pete Fountain. These influences led to the style Stephen displays to this day, stylish grooves and powerful choruses, forays into the country's rich musical past, and a willingness to let a song flow without pressing it into any genre.

Dan Wunsch is the past editor of Nashville Music Guide, a successful music publication founded in 1995 which he sold in January of 2010. In June of this year after actively searching for a literary agent for less than three months, his screenplays and reality show treatments caught the attention of the Robb Company, a talent agency in LA, and the company has signed Wunsch to a one year literary representation contract. Wunsch describes his writing as that of an “entertaining” Michael Moore. Even though his screenplays are “fictional,” he writes from personal experience and researches his subject matter, so they end up being expository in nature. Wunsch currently has four completed scripts and several TV treatments. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Science. |

Sure-Fire Music was started in the Wilburn's Family home by Teddy, Doyle and then neighbor Don Helms over 5 decades ago. Teddy and Doyle wanted to provide something that they could continue to work at when it was no longer feasible for them to spend so much time on the road.
They soon found that the success of the company made it impossible for them to keep up with the work and continue to tour around the country on show dates. To solve this problem their two older brothers Leslie and Lester joined the company to handle the daily business.
It wasn't long before the Company became too large to run from the Little House, the Boys, as well as Mom and Pop all shared. They relocated the company office to the Cumberland Lodge Building in downtown Nashville which was also home to Tree Publishing. The building was located next to the National Life and Casualty Building the company that started WSM. At this time the Opry was held in a small room in the same building with a stage at the front.

Of the many reasons people love Middle Tennessee, one of the most important is its roots in country music with entertainers such as Johnny Cash, the Oak Ridge Boys and Conway Twitty calling Sumner County home over the years. While many of Tennessee's precious treasures often go unnamed, Ruth and Michael Tolbert of Hendersonville are making sure that one in particular is not forgotten. Meet Hendersonville's own Carl Knight.
Born in 1930 on a sharecropper's farm in Mississippi, Carl began selling papers and peanuts in Jackson, MS to help support his family.
Carl would often visit the Sisters of Mercy convent while selling his papers and peanuts and occasionally helped the sisters with yard work. "They became fond of me and contacted my parents to ask permission for me to attend the St. Joseph Academy," explains Carl. "I went on to graduate in 1949 as salutatorian of my class." He adds, "I have wanted to be a writer all of my life. Once, one of the sisters asked everyone to write down what they wanted to be, and I wrote 'songwriter.' I have never deviated from that."
